{"id":4685,"date":"2024-02-03T01:46:11","date_gmt":"2024-02-03T01:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/addnews.info\/?p=4685"},"modified":"2024-02-03T01:46:11","modified_gmt":"2024-02-03T01:46:11","slug":"coach-goes-viral-online-for-this-one-act-during-kids-basketball-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/addnews.info\/?p=4685","title":{"rendered":"Coach goes viral online for this one act during kids\u2019 basketball game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Teachers are some of the most important people in our community, and yet they are one of the most undervalued.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It takes a special person to dedicate their life to educate others, serve as role models, give advice, and mentor the younger generations.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-8e30653e99ce13d7a0f97987181376a1\" class=\"newsner-8e30653e99ce13d7a0f97987181376a1 newsner-bluebillywig_instream\"><\/div>\n<p>We often hear about how teachers have gone above and beyond to help others and, more specifically, the children in their care.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-b8b68631602adde62f2802f6474006f7\" class=\"newsner-b8b68631602adde62f2802f6474006f7 newsner-incide_content_once\"><\/div>\n<p>One such hero is Jonathan Oliver \u2013 a phys-ed teacher at WG Nunn Elementary in Valdosta, Georgia \u2013 who was recognized for his kind act towards a kindergartener while coaching a basketball game.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-4df5e9bbaf9d919b8d1f28efed9648fa\" class=\"newsner-4df5e9bbaf9d919b8d1f28efed9648fa newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>After one of his students came to him for assistance, he was only more than happy to help her.<\/p>\n<p>When one of the kindergarteners on Oliver\u2019s basketball team, Kristen Paulk, asked him to help tie her hair back in a ponytail, the coach sprang into action.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-1184581839\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>Taking a knee on a basketball to get down to little Kristen\u2019s level, Oliver appeared concentrated as he worked on tying her braids back away from her face. Though, unbeknownst to him, he was being recorded.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Kandice Anderson, another teacher at the elementary school, filmed the coach\u2019s sweet gesture \u2014 eventually posting it on YouTube, where he received heartfelt support from the public.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-e19dc9bf0b6a90d73f5eecae9bd253d8\" class=\"newsner-e19dc9bf0b6a90d73f5eecae9bd253d8 newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>The title of the viral video read: \u201cWhen your job goes beyond teaching!\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"When your job goes beyond teaching!\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bfg_LDhU4CE?feature=oembed\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<div id=\"newsner-93289881\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>The footage eventually made its way to\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodmorningamerica.com\/family\/story\/teacher-fixing-students-hair-gym-class-warming-hearts-60938014\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Good Morning America<\/a><\/em>, who contacted the 34-year-old dad-of-three for an interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was shocking to me that it got that much attention because we all do it,\u201d Oliver\u00a0<em>Good Morning America<\/em>, adding that he didn\u2019t realize he was being filmed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe [teachers] want to make them feel like they\u2019re at home and that they enjoy being here,\u201d he added. \u201cWe try to love on them as much as possible. To me, it was just a ponytail.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-0914ea795805130d3a42881829040cd1\" class=\"newsner-0914ea795805130d3a42881829040cd1 newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"newsner-1593018396\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>The caring coach told the outlet that Kristen had asked him for help with putting a ponytail in her hair during a basketball game, but that his expertise sadly does not extend beyond that \u2013 even though he often helps with styling his daughter\u2019s hair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a good thing she asked for a ponytail. Anything else, I\u2019d say, \u2018You better ask your mom,&#8217;\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n<p>Kristen\u2019s mom, Miyah Cleckley, told the outlet that the video really touched her, saying: \u201cI always know that Kristen is in very good hands with him. I thought it was really cute because her father he does their hair a lot. We have five girls and one son so when I\u2019m working he has to pick up the weight of doing their hair.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-672949676\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>This story is just one of many stories about teacher\u2019s going above and beyond for their students.
